The next great “disruptive” technology

October 16th, 2007 by lindsey

When it comes to priorities, I’ve admittedly put my blog pretty close to dead last, as you can tell from my two posts in the past 5 months. However, today is Blog Action Day, a day where bloggers around the world dedicate a post to the environment, and Eastwick has very generously pledged to make a donation to the National Wildlife Federation based on the number of pageviews generated by the posts on Eastwick’s blogs. So while my blog has been like the little cared for step child, I wanted to take this opportunity to post for a good cause.

In the PR world, we see a lot of technologies claiming to be the next great “disruptive” technology, but over the past few years, entrepreneurs, investors and engineers alike have placed their bets on what they see as the next great thing: alternative energy and other environmentally friendly products.

In some cases, buying “green” has become the trendy thing to do, but corporations around the globe have been taking giant strides toward greening their operations. One such company is Eastwick client, Fujitsu America, which in August became the first Silicon Valley company to install its own hydrogen power plant. The hydrogen fuel cell provides clean, efficient power for the company’s Sunnyvale campus data center and other operations, significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

So Close I Could Run There

June 29th, 2007 by lindsey

San Francisco SkylineToday marks Eastwick’s official move to Mountain View. While I’ve never actually seen the new office in person, I’ve seen a few workers wandering around on the UStream live feed from the new office. From the looks of it, Eastwick has landed a pretty sweet spot!

However, if my calculations are correct - and I believe they are because Mapquest doesn’t lie - this means adding an additional 8.75 miles to my already 28.5 mile commute from my flat in San Francisco to the Redwood City office (not that I’m complaining).  So, today also marks my moving day to Eastwick’s San Francisco office, located in the sunny neighborhood of Potrero Hill!

I’ve been working part time in both offices for the past several months, but the time has finally come for me to join the elite staff of the San Francisco office full time. I now enjoy a daily commute of 3.42 miles – so close I could run there!

While I won’t miss the commute, I will definitely miss seeing everyone at staff meetings on Mondays, my new friends at Coghead and the most gorgeous view of the city driving home on 101N. But, to all my fellow Eastwickers who were worried you’d never see me again, don’t worry, I’ll be spending my fair share of time in the new Mountain View office, so you’ll be seeing plenty of me.

Money Makes the World Go ‘Round

May 11th, 2007 by lindsey

worldmoney.jpgArguably, money makes the world go ’round, as Liza Minnelli sang in the 1972 Oscar-winning film, Cabaret. The same is probably true of Silicon Valley, but I’m willing to bet that in this high tech hub, it’s the people behind that money that make the Valley go around.

In his 2006 XTech keynote, essayist and programmer, Paul Graham argued: “If you could get the right ten thousand people to move from Silicon Valley to Buffalo, Buffalo would become Silicon Valley.”

He later revised that number to 500 and then to just 30.

Regardless of the number, in this new blog I plan to focus on the people – from engineers and venture capitalists to politicians and PR pros – essentially, the “movers and ’shakers’,” if you will?

And speaking of PR pros, I’m proud to say I’ve joined the ranks of 20 of my Eastwick colleagues who are now blogging – that’s 50% of the agency!
