Jennifer Pahlka

This week’s podcast brings us ‘double the pleasure, double the fun’ (sorry, guys, I keep thinking Wrigley’s Doublemint gum commercials from back in the day…).

Brady Forrest

But, seriously, I could not be more pleased to welcome these two, distinguished professionals onto the program: Jennifer Pahlka and Brady Forrest, Co-Chairs of Web 2.0 Expo.

I have so many questions for them: From the genesis of Web 2.0 Expo, it’s influence in the social media and business communities around the world… along with the inevitable question, when does Web 2.0 become something else in the wake of Web 3.0 and the semantic Web.

They have experience and insights to spare and are a great pair. It’s an awesome show! Listen to the archive below.

Stars In Our Midst: Kimberly Stoddard Recognized As Top Tech PR Pros By PRSourceCode

July 29th, 2009 by barbarabates

We always knew she was a rock star… now others do too.

It’s with great pride and pleasure we tip our hat to Eastwick’s own Kimberly Stoddard for being recognized as one of the top tech PR pros by PRSourceCode.

This is Kimberly’s second time on the prestigious list and it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving pro.

While we’re a bit biased and think that many of our staff could make the list, we definitely understand why Kimberly has been singled out.

Guy Kawasaki

Guy Kawasaki

With a guy like Guy, where do you start?

Throughout the highs and lows (has he had ‘lows’?) of his career, his winning personality has endured. Positive, yet candid and - dare I say - ballsy, Guy Kawasaki is a survivor and a true Silicon Valley original

We are thrilled for him to join us on our Break through the Noise podcast. As an influencer himself, his perspective is truly unique and we can’t wait to see what he has to say next.

A Note About Our Panel… Prepping To Host Social Media Club Event

Your influence like your shadow extends to where you may never be

Your influence like your shadow extends to where you may never be

Yesterday in preparation for this Thursday’s Social Media Club event, Eastwick hosted a discussion with the participating panelists.  It was a lively session on “the power of influence.” With so much to discuss, the nearly hour long call seemed like a mere precursor to this Thursday’s full blown discussion on influence.

Dominique Lahaix, CEO of eCairn, started the conversation by defining his views on influence and how it’s measured today (curious aren’t you J).

Ryan Calo, academic fellow with the Center for Internet and Society at Stanford Law School, highlighted and shared some of the newest research on the topic.

Jeremy Thomas, Partner and Director of Global Brand Planning at Collaborate, articulated on how strategies for brand building have changed given the rise of new influencers.

Live Podcast: Featured Guest Mario Sundar, LinkedIn

Back in September 2008, I attended BlogWorld Expo and on the panel of my first session was Mario Sundar. He spoke about the value of corporate blogging and, during the Q&A, I challenged him with a few real-world examples that were challenging me.

Mario not only did his best to answer my questions, he invted me to come talk with him further after the session had concluded. Unfortunately, I got caught up speaking with another panelist and never got the chance to speak with Mario. We’re remedying that today as he is our featured guest on our Break through the Noise podcast.

Communications Explained… Sort Of

May 20th, 2009 by Elizabeth Hilton

The New Yorker, January 15, 2007

Source: The New Yorker, January 15, 2007

My typical workday is never really typical, which is great. But, I guess that’s what makes it so hard to explain what we do sometimes?

When people ask what I do, I usually answer with the compendious “Tech communications,” and I almost always get asked… “What’s that?” And then something clicks, “Ooooh, Public Relations, so that’s when you write press releases and get coverage, right?”

I’ve even received the evil eye and a negative response referring to corporate/political flacks who make their living covering up everything from the public.

<Deep breath>

Guest Post By Hiroshi Wald, Principal at The Wald Group and Program Chair at MIT/Stanford Venture Lab

In the current global economic climate, thinking long-term is more important than ever.  Today, we can lay the groundwork for growth. Many nations and businesses try to save their way out of a recession. It is much better to invest our way out.

 – Craig Barrett, CEO, Intel (retired) CeBit, 2009

Everyone is cutting back - or so the conventional wisdom goes. So what’s up with Intel? They just recently launched a new advertising campaign, making their employees stars. In addition to boosting their advertising presence Intel is investing heavily in R&D and Innovation. Shouldn’t they be focusing on deep discounts and layoffs and not worry about anything else? Turns out that the answer is a resounding: No. And Intel is in good company.

Be Careful, it’s Crowded Out There!

April 28th, 2009 by momahmoud

Not only is FoE (Friend of Eastwick) Tom Hogan a Silicon Valley star of traditional marketing, he is the founder of the engagement market agency Crowded Ocean and a pioneer of n:1 marketing.

As Tom discusses here, Crowded Ocean is unlike other agencies that use outdated models and legacy thinking. Crowded Ocean is founded on the Japanese principal of “jidoka” that leverages limited overhead, no costly inventory, empowered workers and total customization for the customer.
