Eastwick Clients Think Pink

It’s the pink time of year again. Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every October, people from all over come together to draw attention to the issue of breast cancer and mobilize resources to find a cure. If you haven’t walked for the cure, you’ve probably donated. Individuals, associations and businesses of all sizes jump in to support organizations such as the American Cancer Society and The Susan G. Komen Foundation. At Eastwick, we’ve been involved with a number of efforts with our clients. My favorite? The Pink Pocket Hard Drive that Seagate produced awhile back (which we managed to get on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, I might add).

This year, our client Fujitsu, is involved with the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk through the American Cancer Society. The Making Strides events have a long history of success, with nearly 4 million people taking part in the walks and more than $280 million raised since 1993. This Saturday, October 25th, the 5K walk is happening  along the Guadalupe River Park trail in downtown San Jose. Hats off to the 35 people from Fujitsu who will be joining the walk. Sounds like a fun event, with lots of games and activities for the whole family. If you’re looking for a way to “think pink” check it out and spread the word. It’s a great group working for a great cause.

One of the things that has really struck me about Breast Cancer Awareness Month is what a successful marketing case study it is…in the last several years there’s been a huge increase in the number of companies that are supporting it each October. You can’t open a magazine, walk down a store isle or sit through a sitcom without seeing pink products being sold…and funds being raised for a good cause. It started out with small things…pink scarves, pink socks, pink t shirts…over the past years it’s grown to include pink food like m&ms…pink Reidel wine glasses, etc. The most creative pink product I’ve seen is pink colored pasta. The point is…the push for pink every October has proven to be a win-win situation for fighting breast cancer and for marketing campaigns for products of all kinds. Other good causes should stand up and take note…
